What I didn't understand with that whole deal was "What was the issue with pence"??? He was the conservative VP.

Pence was the critical person responsible to accept or deny the Electoral College electors whose votes would be counted that day. Trump and his collaborators had asked Pence, the day before, if he would reject some states' electors to halt Biden's victory. Pence refused this request. So the strategy to prevent Biden from winning the election was to get Pence out of the way and have a trumper judge if the electors votes should be counted.
Pence in this Constitutional crisis was revealed to be an honest conservative, pledged to uphold the Constitution and count the Electoral College votes honestly. So they had to get rid of him for their plan to have a chance.
That is a good summation of the plan Trump and his Trumpers had to install a Dictator in the White House and the person who followed the US Constitution and stood in there way.
